New central heating upheaval?

Betty1980 · 07/11/2014 17:12

Has anyone ever had central heating installed? On a scale of "might want to give the duster a flick about" to "re plaster, redecorate, recarpet" how much disruption is it likely to cause?

My dilemma exactly. replacement storage heaters cost a fair bit too though. How many radiators would you need?

I haven't got quotes in yet as coukdnt afford to do the work until summer. I think we'll need 6 and a bathroom one...

How did you find a company? Google??

Recovering · 12/11/2014 20:32

Oh and will they box in pipes? How much difference will it make?

Phoenixfrights · 12/11/2014 22:52

That sounds reasonable to me, especially as they are removing storage heaters. They are heavy (one of ours weighed 150 KG Shock and occasionally contain asbestos.... Does that include or exclude VAT/making good any wall/ floor damage?

Next one in £4392 Inc vat.

Reading this thread with interest. We need to replace our boiler and system as there is a blockage somewhere which various plumbers can't track down. Todays quote was £7-8,000 Shock Will keep looking...

when moving electric storage heaters, you unscrew the front panel and lift out the bricks to carry separately. They are made that way for easy transport. The electric heater and case itself is quite light.

Second-hand storage heaters are very cheap on ebay, and sometimes free on Freegle, especially from people who don't know you can take the bricks out.

We had ours done about 8 years ago. 3 bed end terrace. Radiators fitted in every room (bar the tiny kitchen as we couldn't find room). The guys were here for 2 days.

They pulled back the carpets, then put them back neatly.

They didn't put the pipes into the walls, instead they have plastic cladding over them and they are in the corners so they are quite unobtrusive.

It cost £2750.
