Another "opinion needed" thread - open plan downstairs, would you separate a lounge even if very small?

I am a bit daydreaming still as am in a process of buying the house. It has open plan downstairs, I am not a fan but this is our compromise. It is L shape. It used to be a small kitchen and a kitchen diner. I am thinking perhaps to put up a wall between in the midst of a former dining/living room, that would make kitchen/diner about 2.9m x 6.3m and living room about 3.3m x 3.3m. I think I could manage two small sofas, TV and bookshelf in there. Is it worth having that quiet, even if very small room for chilling out? I was thinking perhaps to have single/double door opening to the dining room, but this purely for visual purpose - I anticipate closed doors at most times, only because we are so used to having a separate kitchen/diner and a separate living room at the moment I just cannot imagine any other way.
Opinions, please?

Floorplan, only that mine does not have conservatory, and has a big window instead of conservatory door.

Absolutely yes. We are renting a house with all in one open plan kitchen/living/dining room and I crave a seperate space.

There is definately merit to having a second space but not if it makes the other rooms feel cramped. I suggest you live with the current layout for at least 6 months before you do anything.

I had planned a major change of floor plan for our house when we bought it. The renovation plans were postponed for a few years for a variety of reasons. 5 years later, the floor plan that we went with (and love living in) is totally different to what we thought we'd do before we moved in. There's a real temptation to go with what you're used to.

You might end up keeping the room as it is and doing an extension as a second TV room. If you don't need all the bedrooms you might put a TV room upstairs.

I really don't like the idea of doors or double doors that aren't used. It really limits where you can put your furniture.

I think the living room will seem much smaller but a family needs more than one room. Acoustic privacy is essential so I would do it with doors as you suggest.

Thank you. I am afraid an extension at later stage won't be possible as the garden is already very small (6m x 6m). Not much room to juggle with the layout then.
