bathroom questions ..

Quick questions re new bathroom:

  • builtin or freestanding units? Built in not as stylish but will increase storage and worktop space
  • is it acceptable to have a sparkly black wet wall and bath surround and then white and light wood units? Or is this a no no (i.e. should only do in a black and white bathroom?)
  • are white tiles dull?

Got to finalise order in next 2 days - help!

The black wet wall might look a bit stark if everything else is pale. White tiles can be dull, but you can add interest if they are textured or a different shape.

I feel your pain - we've just finalised our bathroom design and it has taken months of decisions....

Oh, and we went for built in, mainly because of the size of the room. But quite a contemporary design, white gloss with some oak trim, white composite worktop and integrated basin.

Thanks Cointreau! your bathroom sounds beautiful! After much pinteresting, it will be black and white bathroom, white built in units with black worktops, black sparkly wet wall around bath. Black or white floor. White tiles. Paint rest in some kinda farrow and ball colour, light blue perhaps. ..

Ime black or white on floors are a pain to keep clean. Go for grey or something else; much more forgiving.

freestanding always look like massive dirt and damp traps to me. There's a reason those old-fashioned baths with feet went out.

acceptable is defined by those that live in the house, i.e. you. I like the sound of the sparkly wet wall - but if you have hard water, how much will it mark?

CointreauVersial · 26/10/2014 21:18

We're having wet wall too, but have chosen a matt one to avoid watermarks.

MillyMollyMama · 26/10/2014 21:33

Nothing avoids watermarks if you have hard water. A dark surface is a no no in my view. Tiling is so much smarter.

Twice....

Wish had read this before went to home base and ordered the wet wall and everything today!!Have to return tomorrow so will ask the watermark issue. I don't think have hard water? Am off to google check though.

Went for back sparkly wet wall floor tiles and rest as described incl the built in - seems a more sensible option...even if the rest of the choices may not be ;)
