Anyone got these?

Would like something a little quirky but not very. Or should I stick with round?

Our house is very early Edwardian (1903) and the original door knobs are oval, but brass.

Thanks - ours is only just older - v late Victorian.
So shape works.
Not sure re Matt chrome re brass.
Is yours shiny or matt?
Currently we have one matt brass and then every other variation in style colour and material you could imagine! Well feels that way!

Formerly had an Edwardian house with original oval knobs, which were brass but treated to make them dark.

I don't think chrome plating is in keeping for a Victorian home. Ceramic, brass or wood, or painted.

If you have panelled doors and knobs, your latches should have at least three inch backset or you will bang your knuckles on the frame. Five inches is original.

I think they were originally shiny brass but TBH we've lived here nearly 20 years and I've not polished them so now there a nice dull colour Grin. Some are smooth whilst others have molding round the edges. I find the oval ones easier to use than the round ones as they are harder to grip.

Yes, you can turn an oval one even if your hands are oily or arthritic.

Don't go for matt chrome as it looks very fake plastic looking. If you can try satin nickle which as a warmer brassier undertone which may be a good compromise. Or Bronze, if they do this finish, looks different but I think in keeping with a period feel, although Bronze is often the most expensive.

I've just bought these as my pretty glass handles all decided to fall off! We got brushed brass ones from Wicks, they were about £3 a set! Seriously, really cheap bit look lovely.

here

This is my first time trying a link. Let's see if I can do it.

Greencheese - those look great.
Will look at those too.

Found some in nickel though way more than greencheese's

I'm a bit surprised that Ironmongery Direct only have premium priced oval knobs. The probably cost no more to make than round ones, and are probably imported from India or somewhere.

The Wickes ones look very reasonable.

Why not ask to have a look in a neighbour's house to see if they still have their original knobs?

Brass would have tended to be for larger houses. Have you considered wooden knobs like these:
