A built in double oven, or a single built in + single Oven/Microwave or Steam oven?

Trying to decide what would be better and need some opinions please :)

New kitchen & I need to order to Oven(s) this week. We are having a tall unit to house built in oven appliances.

Double oven would be great - separate oven which would mostly be used for grilling I expect unless catering alot of food. Downsides is that a double can't have that lovely PryoKlean feature. Microwave would sit in lader cupboard and be a bit annoying to use, as much as I hate it, I do use it alot (Heating bottles for baby, milk for toddler, meals from freezer etc)

Single oven + Oven/Microwave - Would service oven & microwave needs, but expensive option to go for. The microwave doesn't look as big and then I would have to clear out fatty grilling trays when I wanted to use it, or have the main oven with these

Single Oven + Steam Oven - Would be a new fangled healthy way to cook lots of things (but is it a fad?) Would also be an expensive option and Microwave would still be in the larder.

Anyone got any of these combos and love/hate them? Siemens is the brand we've decided on if that makes a difference.

Thank you wise Mnetters

Good choice. I have these in Siemens with pyrolytic main oven and looks beautiful 8 years on.

Good choice Smile if you're a short arse like me just be careful the microwave isn't going to be too high for safe use!

Hiya,

We just ordered a single oven with micro-combi above. So I'm pleased they jurynhas pronounced in favour.

Ours will be housed in a 1.4m high unit because I HATE high cupboards with a passion. I also don't want those ovens too high. I am 5ft3, why would I design a kitchen that poses a big risk of scolding or burns to someone who is 5ft3...? Unless you are a giraffe high ovens are not good.

I switched from a gas oven with grill compartment above to a pricey Miele pyrolytic oven with a steam oven above. If I hadn't ditched the gas supply to the kitchen when we rebuilt it. I would swap back in an instant.

Just in case it helps, this is what I like and what I miss.
Steam oven: excellent for rice, great for fish. if we have people round and we are cooking lots of veg we'll steam it (otherwise it is a pain waiting for it to warm up versus popping on the induction hob). Also useful for heating up frozen food (have a cheap as chips microwave that doesn't heat evenly). Very rarely cook casseroles etc, though it is quite good at that. Everything is easy to wash up if using a steam oven vs hob.

Grill in oven: it might just be a Miele thing, but I hate having to shut the door to grill (only ever grill cheese on toast as a result) so you are forever opening the door or squinting in bad light to guess how things are progressing.

Lack of separate grill - because is was in the same casing as the oven it was great for keeping dishes warm and heating up plates

Pyrolytic oven: I've had this function repaired twice now in 7 years I think the last engineer just switched the error message off!

I love having an induction hob (in case that was up for consideration).

Just to put an alternative view, I love the pyroclean function on our oven. Tis amazing! Go to bed with horrible greasy oven, wake up with oven covered in a slight layer of ash which I wipe out with a bit of damp kitten roll.
