Has anyone used rustic metro tiles in their kitchen? I have some question.

We're having a new kitchen fitted. The worktop is white quartz. It was fitted last week and now we're deciding on tiles. None of the samples we got in advance look right, so it's back to the drawing board. We only want a few rows of tiles so we can paint above.

I think white tiles are going to be the safest option. I could go for the popular white gloss metro tile, which is very in keeping with the age and style of the house but there's quite a gap between the back of the worktop and the wall. I'm not convinced a thin tile will bridge it. Instead I am considering a rustic tile, like the Laura Ashley artisan. DH thinks these won't work though because they are not flat on the front and socket covers won't sit right on top of them.

Has anyone used a rustic tile or the LA Artisan tile where there are sockets and does it look okay? What colour grouting is best when white tiles are used with a white quartz worktop? The kitchen units are grey. I don't want to make too much of a feature of the tiles, so was thinking of white grouting. But does light grey look better?

This was me a few weeks ago; grey units, white quartz worktop. I got loads of samples, thinking that I'd go for white. In the end I went for these

They blend in very well.
I'd definitely suggest getting loads of samples.

ooh - thank you. Did you tile all over or just a few rows? I have managed to find a very pale grey tile which is more like an off white and matches the quartz a bit more.

I just used mine for a splash back behind the hob. I've got an up stand with the quartz then just paint. I think they'd look fine in a small row though.

Any chance of a photo of how it works behind the hob Truly? Facing this dilemma myself...

The other option bryte is to install tongue and groove panelling as an alternative to tiles, then you can paint it any colour you like.

not mine, but this idea.

I ended up going for a very pale grey - more like an off-white colour. I opted for subtle gunmetal grouting. four rows of tiles. I'm really pleased with the effect.
