Cleaning up after builders

Has anyone used one of the professional 'after building work' cleaning companies, and if so was it worth it?
We're having a new kitchen put in a new rear extension and lots of walls are coming down = lots of dust!
I've knackered a domestic vacuum previously cleaning up just plaster dust, and that was just in one room, so I love the thought of getting the professionals in and having every surface in every room cleaned!!
I'll also have a 6mo when the work is scheduled to be finished (will be staying with the in-laws certainly for a couple of weeks during) and I'm not sure I can be arsed doing it all myself.
Any tips for day-to-day cleaning when the builders are here?

Watching with interest. I'd like to understand what they normally do.
I know it's possible to hire industrial vacuum cleaners, so that could be an option.

I have. there will usually be 2 to 4 people. It costs more than an ordinary cleaner. They are used to the gritty dust.

I always say, if you have a builder in, hide your hoover, and hide it's hose in a different place. Buy a canister vac with cartridge filter and disposable bags.

You also need to take everything out of all the drawers and cupboards, and wash it all. Hoover lampshades and damp-wipe tops of everything including doors.

I've used them a few times as the first line of attack and it's defo worth it, if only to make the subsequent cleaning manageable. They're great for tops/insides of cupboards etc but remember the dust will still be settling over subsequent weeks, so don't expect miracles. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies.
I think in the grand scheme of things the cost to get them in is minuscule compared to the cost of the extension. And the savings to my sanity in not having to deal with the building dust? Priceless!
