How expensive is a John Lewis kitchen? Twice the price of the rest?

I loathe loathe gloss doors, I do not want to my kitchen to look like a lab. I want plain doors, no gloss.

It seems, that out of the big chains, JL is the only one who does this. How expensive are they?

Ikea do plain non Gloss doors in white and grey veddenge I think.

Try second nature or masterclass. Are you looking for shaker style? We've just ordered a masterclass kitchen (same company as sigma 3) so mid- range and got the ivory fairmont. The doors come in something like 12 or 20 different colours.

MrPickles123 · 16/10/2014 06:39

I've just looked at the masterclass website- the Reno H line might be what you're after? Comes in 8 colours

Orangeanddemons · 16/10/2014 07:11

Don't want shaker style. I want plain doors. Will look at those websites

I had john Lewis design my kitchen, then my builder took the plans directly to the manufacturer and bought it from them. It was 60% cheaper than JL. I love my builder big time! It's a gorgeous, high quality kitchen

Apatite1 · 16/10/2014 11:15

Camsie, does your builder work in South London by any chance? I'm looking for one with that kind of initiative!

We've just ordered IKEA veddinge. It is exactly that.

I'd be surprised though if no other kitchen designers offered something so basic.

DIY kitchens do a range of plain slab doors, no gloss. Mostly they are painted, but there are a couple of wood options, too.

motleymop · 20/10/2014 07:44

I found that a lot of the matt kitchen 'slab' style doors were horrible with the cheaper companies. So I know where you're coming from. Luckily I fell in love with the Ikea Nodsta kitchen (unlucky for my builder - he hated putting it together!).

motleymop · 20/10/2014 07:45

p.s. I was put off even getting a quote from John Lewis by the length of time they told me the process would take - I didn't have months

BikeRunSki · 20/10/2014 07:50

If you are in the north of England I highly recommend Riverside Interiors in Penistone (N of Sheffield but they travel). They make their own stuff. We have plain slab doors in eggshell finish off white. 7 years on the kitchen is only just beginning to show a bit of wear.

TheCrimsonQueen · 20/10/2014 07:56

Fantastic. The kitchen team were great. Fantastic service, great quality and not cheap but as always you get what you pay for.

we moved shortly after putting it in and now have a horrid brown and beige nightmare to live with until we have enough money to pay for another JL visit. Sad

Orangeanddemons · 20/10/2014 08:06

Actually I do live in Sheffield....the problem is, this is an insurance job. Our house caught fire in June, and they've been repairing it ever since. We were told to look for a kitchen last week, but they want it ASAP. So bespoke ones will probably take too long to be delivered.

I've found one in Magnet and Southern that I like, so am going to see them tomorrow. Spent 2 hours in Wren yesterday, but the designer forgot to include the appliances Sad. I want simple, but not overly slab like. The ones in Magnet have a bevel on them.

We've got plain matt handleless doors from DIY Kitchens, wasn't too long to wait for delivery at all so might be worth checking them out. The kitchens are lovely though I have to say the customer service is abysmal, though we might just have been unlucky.

Camsie30 · 20/10/2014 08:15

Apatite1 I'm afraid not. But I'm sure he can't be the only one with the contact....

NoArmaniNoPunani · 20/10/2014 08:20

Magnet are pricey for what they are. You'd get better value for money with John Lewis.

Orangeanddemons · 20/10/2014 09:18

Don't think we've got time to wait for JL. It needs a fast turnaround. I know Magnet are expensive, but insurance are payingGrin

What put me off JL was there was absolutely no indication of price on their website.

Wickes use the same supplier as JL and are reasonable price.
