Is it possible to add a hot water tank to a combi-boiler

We've just moved into a new house which has a combi-boiler. Our old house had a boiler with a hot water tank, which I prefer, but very few houses we viewed had this.

The combi-boiler seems fine and you only need to run the taps for a short time to get hot water coming through. However, the shower has had some issues - water pressure dropping even though no other taps are turned on, and some temperature variations.

The boiler is quite new - would it be possible to add a hot water tank to the system without replacing the boiler? I'd like to have the back-up of an immersion heater if the central heating stops working, but we couldn't afford to replace the boiler as well. There is space in the cupboard where the boiler is for a small hot water tank.

yes.

Any heating engineer or plumber over 14 knows how to do it.

But if you fit one, it is probably worth fitting a large one.

Fill a bucket at your kitchen cold tap (and garden or utility room tap if you have one), time it, calculate how many litres per minute it delivers. This is important.

I was hoping for an answer from the legendary PigletJohn Smile

Won't be able to test the flow until we find the buckets, but it is reassuring to know it can be done without replacing the whole boiler - thank you!

Ooh, that's interesting. We have a combi boiler, but I really feel we were given duff advice when it was fitted. 2 bathrooms but can only use one shower at a time and woe be tired anyone flushes the loo while some else is having a shower....
