Repair sash windows

Hello
I am in London and need to repair a large sash window with rotting frame, plus sill needs replacement. To replace window I've been quoted 6000 pounds!!! Doesn't need to be perfect but needs to function (top half of window drops down). Looking for an excellent company any recommendations? Thanks!

The top half of my sash window dropped down slightly and I was told it just needed more weight in the box, so not a major job. Just how rotten are your windows? Could they be repaired by a decorator? One of mine was starting to rot and the decorator repaired it. Of course, we do not know how long it will last - but it is worth a try.

I was also quoted that sort of figure for a large window but I would shop around - some people on here have been quoted a lot less. Oh! and the window people I approached were not interested in repairing, just in replacing.

Sounds like they want to just replace it, rather than repair. How bad is it? There are companies that can work miracles with sash windows, even when they look shot.

Ventrolla are a national company. You could try a local joinery firm. £6000 is a huge amount. It sounds like the weight has come off it it's not staying put.

I used joineryworkshop.com. The guy who covers my area is actually from London (we are in Bedfordshire). We've had 4 single windows done so far and went for the replacement wooden sashes with slimline double glazing (cost just over £3k). I just wish we could afford to do the rest of the house. I've literally just given their details to my neighbour.
