Would you share your kitchen quotes?

We're buying a kitchen for the first time, part of a rather extensive building project that we are currently in the middle of (roof going on next week!!)

So far we have had quotes from Magnet and Wickes for a very similar kitchen design. Magnet quoted us £7,500 if we buy and have delivered before the end of Oct (not possible at the stage of build we are at) or £11,500 otherwise. Wickes quoted us £8,500 which can be held for 6 months with a 10% deposit.

To be honest I thought Wickes would come in cheaper than Magnet, obviously my expectations are a little way out! We are going to get a third quote from Howdens (recommended by friends/family who work in the trade).

I just wanted to ask if any of you would mind sharing your kitchen quotes so I can see how the different companies compare?

Thanks! :)

Opened this thinking you were looking for something like 'eat your dinner or you'll not get pudding'.

Can't comment on those companies sorry but the £15k howden's kitchen I saw I didn't think much of.

have you looked at Ikea? If you installing it yourself, we thought this was a very good option and has good reviews, including Which. They have just updated their kitchen range and we liked the variety of cupboards/drawer size and myriad options. good value I think, but check out product lines and reviews/prices. thought their electrical fittings were good also. we looked at the other suppliers you mentioned but were going to use Ikea, until we found a local kitchen shop that seems reasonable and also fits for what seems a reasonable cost although prob double that the Ikea 'build yourself' would have been.

Our ikea kitchen came in at just over £3k. It's fab. Everyone says it looks more expensive than it did. That included a small freezer, cooker hood, larder etc. with fittings (builder who also did the bashing of walls down, painting, coving, structural beam etc), it was about £7,500. We are in the se.

Depends on the size of the room and the spec you go for, tbh.

I would recommend getting quotes from locally recommended, smaller suppliers too, as well as the big DIY barns.

We went to an independent shop. They also fitted it and organised the quartz fitting team too.

It's a large kitchen area and they were fantastic at fitting it into an irregular kitchen shape. And obtained the doors/cupboards to fit. They were just wonderful.

If you have a 'normal' shaped kitchen I would look at Ikea as the cheapest. If you have an interesting shaped kitchen then go for a decent independent.

My kitchen is Magnet and I wouldn't recommend it, partly because of the design - they don't have a wide range of cabinet sizes, the made-to-measure table was just a badly cut-down work top etc, and partly (mainly!) because the cupboard backs are rubbish!
My previous kitchen was German (Rationale) and was much better quality for not much difference in price.

£17.5k from a local kitchen designer shop using German company units and Siemens appliances. £18.5k from another local kitchen shop for British units that apparently matched German quality, that included AEG appliances and silestone worktop. Both quotes were without fitting. Not huge kitchen by any means. Was shocked at total cost. Builders have estimated 8K from Howdens would get something decent. We will still go with Siemens or AEg appliances though and loved the silestone worktop so maybe nearer £10k.
I walked out of Magent with a flounce and told the salesman I would take my money elsewhere. He was so in so condescending. He wasn't going to bother doing a plan or quote as it was during their sale and he said by the time we are ready to fit the kitchen in our new extension all their prices would be completely different so there was no point.

Benchmarx are the Wickes version of Howdens - same kitchens I think but the cabinets come premade. Google to see if there is one near you. Should come in the same or less than Wickes.

Watching with interest as I too am doing a similar project but a bit behind you.

We have a Magnet kitchen which cost £8k including all appliances and fancy pull out larders. The designer was fantastic, came out to our house 3 times, thought of loads of ideas we wouldn't have considered in terms of layout. Our kitchen is big, and we have 12 base units, a corner unit, 2 full height pull out larders, 4 wall units, induction hob, f/f, double oven, integrated dishwasher. The appliances were much cheaper from Magnet than they were in John Lewis.

The one thing you do have to watch is that the brochure/list price bears no resemblance to the final price. Ignore their push to get you signed up or else you'll lose the sale price - I told the designer what my budget was and didn't move on it. According to the list price, our kitchen would have been £20k, and we were originally quoted £10k as their special sale price. We got everything we wanted for £8k because I haggled.

We're really pleased with it.
