What to paint a wendy house with?

I know it's actually autumn but I finally have the wendy house up and want to paint it to protect it from the weather that is about to start!
I've been looking at the Cuprinol Shades but my friend said a wood gloss paint would work better... However having tried to find these online they don't seem to have a great range of colours. Am I missing something?
Also wondering what to use on the inside? Is anyone out there an expert? Grin
Hoping to order online as no car, so any links would be fab - TIA!

if it is outdoors, a breathing paint or a woodstain intended for garden furniture will be better. Outdoor wood is sure to get damp, gloss will prevent it drying out so will accelerate rot.

If you don't mind dull colours, shed-and-fence stain is very low priced. It leaves a waxy film so you can't use paint over it, but can easily restain with similar product.

Thank you Piglet! Smile Yes it will be in the garden. Is Cuprinol a good choice for the exterior in your opinion? The interior being gloss would be the same issue re accelerating rot I assume?

Just painted mine in Cuprinol & do it every year along with shed. Looks lovely and new.

Worth the money, it took about an hour to an hour and a half. I scrubbed off green moss before hand and then applied when the wood was dry.

I have never treated the inside in the six years we have had it. I did empty it out and clean the floor with bleach water (kitchen Lino on floor) before chucking stuff out and then tidying up !

All very therapeutic.

Ours is Cuprinol too. Bright pink and forest green. Looks really nice in the garden. I mixed the leftover paint with white emulsion for a pale pink and green interior too. I need to get a lino offcut to redo the floor now.

The parts in contact with the ground would benefit from being treated with Curinol Wood preserver. You might have to tip it over and let the wood dry first. It gives some protection against rot and insect. If it is standing on concrete slabs, that will be better, but the bottom and 6 inches up will still get wet from rainsplash so preservative will help. The preservative is spirit-based and is not a paint or stain.

Thank you everyone! Now just to decide on the colour - DD wants a dark blue but am trying to coax her towards forget-me-not so it isn't so much of a battleship in the garden!
Piglet, it is on a wooden decking area built for purpose but I will take your advice. I think I am more worried about the roof than the base as the felting they sent was partially cracking when we put it on! Shock I think I may have to re-roof it next year!

Ours is Cuprinol cream and blue. It's looking a bit shabby chic theses days though.

Lioninthesun · 04/10/2014 20:45

:) I talked to DD about the DARK blue in the bath tonight and she said with adamant 3yo confidence, "No mummy, it must be DARK blue" she did finally concede to the windows and fascia being cream though, so we will probably end up with a beach hut effect Grin

The nice thing about a wooden playhouse is you can just repaint when you get fed up of the colour. Ours used to be sort of camo patterned and altogether more macho.
