Just moved into a new build. Unfortunately it was the show flat and the kitchen was already installed when we first saw it. It is limited. They did it as cheaply as possible and despite having space for two more units, they didn't put them in. Now it would look daft to add some on the end. I need somewhere for recycling, a bucket, dustpan, window cleaner etc. So am going to build a chest to take the bags we store our recycling in. The kitchen was clearly designed by someone who has never used one!
Sections for glass, tins, plastic, cardboard. Space for the bucket. And a spare roll of kitchen paper (I have literally no storage in the flat). And the window vacuum.
The aim is that it can be used as a step for the DC to stand on to help at the counter. To be potentially used as extra work top (would this need a special coating?) as I have only the space over the dishwasher and a half cupboard.
Somewhere for the DC to sit and draw/playdoh at. And something simple to build! It will be painted to match the colour of the kitchen.
I can think of several options for a top, hinged and sliding. Which would be more practical? I've decided it has to be one whole piece of wood rather than two for cleaning purposes.
Hinged obviously has to be clear to open, sliding, if done carefully probably not. But I can't really invisage a reason why I would need to open it when its being used.
What do I need to think about?
