Where is the elusive off white grey that's light and warm?

Hi, I've seen some fantastic paint posts on here, so hoping you ladies can help! I'm looking for an off white paint that's really a light grey, warm but light, not peachy in any way as I'm desperately trying to get away from the 'retired peach' vibe of the previous owners. It needs to work ideally in two rooms:
1/ The living room that will probably have a feature wall in Venetian Crystal 1 www.dulux.co.uk/shop/colour/venetian_crystal_1
It's not a very bright room, although south facing, and has a mid brown karndean floor that's slight orangey so it can't be a pinky grey

2/ The hallway/stairs where I'd like to paint Steel Grey www.dulux.co.uk/shop/colour/grey_steel_1
on the bottom and this other colour on the top. The steel grey sounds very cold, but actually looks quite warm on our walls and almost slightly purpley.

Any help would be much appreciated as it's taken ages to come up with these colours and the other one is sending me over the edge!

Does it have to be dulux? Farrow & Ball cornforth White does it for me. We have it with a feature wall of f&b down pipe which looks similar to the Venetian crystal you've chosen.

F&B Strong White?

teaandkittens123 · 02/10/2014 20:13

ooh, no not necessarily, was just narrowing my choices so I didn't go mental, but happy to branch out. Or can probably get it colour matched. Thanks. Is it purpley/pinky at all? Is hard to tell from the image. I don't know if I'm after something that doesn't exist, I think purpley/pinky might clash with the floor, but something that picks up on the slightly orangy floor might look my dreaded apricot. But too blue might look too cold!

Not purpley/pinky where we have it (East facing)

teaandkittens123 · 02/10/2014 20:17

Thanks, checking them both out now

I have Dulux Egyptian Cotton and I love it.

Little Greene Slaked Lime mid - we tried Welcome, looking for a warm pale white-grey and realised, after doing one wall, that we were painting our living room mauve. Went for Slaked Lime. It looks beigey on the charts and in the tin but feels more like a grey.

teaandkittens123 · 02/10/2014 20:32

Thanks, looking at these too

We've just painted hall/stairs/landing in F and B blackened after many a discussion on whether dimpse or strong white was best.

I love it. It's perfect. We have quite a lot of light on the landing so I don't know whether that affects it greatly.

We have wevet in the lounge, which is just slightly off white. It's cool and quite stark. Only just decorated so still need lots of pictures on the walls which hopefully will add some colour!

BiggerYellowTaxi · 02/10/2014 20:40

I think I tried Slaked Lime but it came out a bit green on our sitting room wall. It depends so much on the light. We have a stained glass front door and our hallway has been really hard to choose a colour for because everything looks cold and bluey. Egyptian Cotton looked awful and really cold but I know it is a nice colour.

I love Little Greene paints and have French Grey in my sitting room which is lovely and not pinkish, greenish, bluish or purplish but I tried over 10 greys before choosing it. Best of luck Smile

I've got Blackened in my (very light) kitchen, it's a gorgeous colour but I can see a definite blue tinge.

MiddletonPink · 02/10/2014 20:43

Sorry didn't describe blackened to you.

It's a very soft delicate grey. Not cold, not steel. It is very pretty imo. We have it with white picture rail and above, white coving and ceiling and skirting boards. Get a sample pot, paint it on A4 paper and hold it up against difference walls in the room you want to paint.

MiddletonPink · 02/10/2014 20:46

Really cross?! There's no blue in it in my house. Must be the light. Now dimpse had a definite blue in it. Still lovely, a bit like that period blue colour.

crossandcrosser · 02/10/2014 20:56

Very much so Middleton but we have got Light Blue cabinets.
I've got my eye on Dimpse for a dark hall, hoping it won't look gloomy.
My whole house is a variation on a theme Smile, it will be a nightmare when I decide I don't like blue or grey any more.

teaandkittens123 · 02/10/2014 20:56

thanks all, much appreciated. French grey pale is looking good. I think more tester pots are in order!

Haha mine too Cross. One lounge Wevet, another Light Blue ( now that looks greeny/grey to me ) hall/stairs/landing blackened and ds's room a dulux period blue/grey.

We've gone overboard!

teaandkittens123 · 02/10/2014 21:06

well with kitchen, living/dining room and stairs all going grey, looks like I'm joining you!

I have Dove Grey & Oyster (very similar) in the lowest intensity and they are gorgeous. I can't recall the brand though - I brought them from a trade supply shop, which is great as once you find the colour you like, they then do all the different intensities of that colour.

I love pale greys in the home - very calm and fresh.

AgathaHannigan · 02/10/2014 21:20

I have Dulux perfectly taupe which does this in my kitchen...

shaska · 02/10/2014 21:32

So odd what light does - we ended up painting the hallway 'temporarily' in Welcome, and it doesn't look purple there at all - very 'welcoming' in fact, so it's stayed - and Slaked Lime very ungreen in this living room!

Blackened sounds interesting!

spotty26 · 02/10/2014 22:36

Dulux Dusted Moss 3 is my fave grey neutral at the mo. I have it in 4 rooms and goes with everything.

MairzyDoats · 02/10/2014 22:41

Dulux polished pebble is a gorgeous pale yet warm grey, I love it to bits in my living room.

Evenstar · 02/10/2014 22:45

My living room is a lovely warm grey called Snowfall, a Crown colour, everyone who has seen it thinks it is the nicest grey they have ever seen, it really doesn't seem peachy to me, it is the colour of snow filled clouds before the snow starts.

minipie · 03/10/2014 00:05

Sanderson Birch White or Grey Birch Light

Paint and Paper Library also worth a look

staverton · 03/10/2014 00:18

I have French Grey pale by LG and it is exactly that. Warm light grey. Especially against white (eg f&b all white in eggshell)
