Anyone had a loft conversion, are they warm?

If you've got a loft conversion, can you let me know how warm or cold it is in the winter, and whether it has been done in the last few years when hopefully insulation has improved.

This is our first year in our new house. It was originally a bungalow and loft was converted two years ago to include two bedrooms and bathroom. It was a dormer on the back and as it's up in the roof, just wondering how warm it will be. If anyone has a similar thing, what are your annual gas bills, if you don' mind me asking.

Hi, as long as it's properly insulated you'll be toasty in the winter. Sorry I don't know my gas bill Blush
We have one radiator in each bedroom and a large heated towel rail in the shower room. All three rooms are big and don't feel cold in the winter.

I agree. If it's been done properly - which yours sounds as if it has being so recent, it will be fine. We had one in an Edwardian terraced house that had and it was great. However the converted bungalow I was raised in which had been done in the late 60s was terrible. No heating or insulation. It was sweltering in summer with little ventilation as there were only windows on one side and freezing in winter. Contrary to my DF's claims, heat did not rise!

As it was done under building regs four years ago, fingers crossed it will be warm.

Anything done to current or recent building regs will be fine. Ours is lovely and warm as its so well insulated.

Ours is cold in the winter and hot in summer Sad It was done 11 years ago and met building regs at the time.

Ours was done nearly 4 years ago - we were living in a loft conversion in a rented flat with no insulation and it was freezing at the time so we demanded that they did the best insulation possible on the loft conversion we were having done in our house. Its lovely and toasty in the winter (and is heated by only one slim line radiator).

If you stick your head into the eaves, you will see if the back of the new stud walls have been insulated.

5 years ago. Yes warm in winter, warm in summer too. Not complaining as its ds`s room and smelly, so it encourages him to open the Windows to air.

Our is two years old and is warm in the winter and bloody warm in the summer but I do have nearly a full wall of South facing windows so it's much like a greenhouse when the sun is out. Easily remedied with open windows and an occasional fan use.
