Anyone got a walk in wardrobe?

My builder wants to know what layout I want.
Definitely long hanging & short hanging space.
Shelves or drawers?
What about shoe storage or will they just be clumped on the floor like now?
I've been on Pinterest but they seem to have cupboards the size of a 1 bed flat.

Depends on the sort of clothes you wear. Mine has too much space for hanging things (which I rarely wear) and not enough drawers or shelves. You can't have too many of them IMHO.

That's useful Ann, thanks. DH has suits & shirts, mines more jeans & tee shirts. What do you do with shoes?

I have short and long hanging spaces. 3/4 short and 1/4 long. fir shoe storage Uh have two very deep drawers which are great for holding lots of shoes. one other drawer - quite deep - for handbags. high storage shelfs on top for bits. we also put a small radiator in to ensure against damp.

other people I know have put cheap chest of drawers in the wardrobe for storage. the drawers dont have to be expensive or matching the rest of your bedroom.

Great help thanks. Cheap chest is a good idea, it could go below short hanging space. Lots of online pics have built in cubbies, but I can see ours filling up with junk.
We've put a small radiator in there.

I don't keep many shoes in mine due to very pale cream carpets. They mostly live on shoe racks downstairs.

My split is about 25 percent shelves and drawers, 25 percent long hanging space, 50 percent short double hanging space and a separate high shelf all the way around.

I have separate shoe storage

Good luck

I have chests of drawers of two different heights on either side, with a bit of space beyond them with nothing there and hanging rails on top on both sides.

Gives me three different lengths of hanging and a whole load of drawers.

Thanks for the advice.
Would it be worth paying the extra to have it made by a carpenter or is the ikea pax adequate?

We had a walk in in the last house, we configured it ourselves. Most of our hanging space was double, top and bottom rails with a short long hanging part as I don't have many dresses and coats were in a separate hall closet.
We did a section of floor to ceiling shelves about 18 inches high an 18 inches wide two rows side by side. Held all the folded jumpers, and other odds and ends and the bottom two rows were shoe storage.
The whole closet had a shelf around the top just above the top hanging rail. that was filled with spare pillows, folded duvets things like that.
