Is there a larger loo size?

We refitted our bathrooms a few years ago, replacing all the 1970s coloured sanitary ware with white. Now DH dislikes all our loos because the sitting area is too small for his pert petite posterior. (He's 6'5" and generally in proportion to his height.) I've looked in bath stores and all toilets seem to be small. Is this to comply with regulations on water use, or is is possible to buy a single throne? Any ideas MN experts?

TIA

He would probably be ok with the loo if he had a larger loo seat.

There's something called the big john loo seat, which is designed for bigger people.

£153!!

sanfairyanne · 29/09/2014 09:04

are you sure he is not imagining things? i thought toilet seats were standard sizes?

ilovepowerhoop · 29/09/2014 09:08

you do get different sizes of seats with different size of sitting area.

Vitalstatistix · 29/09/2014 09:09

I know. Ridiculous price, isn't it? But it is a big and strong seat and looking on google, there don't seem to be a lot of options.

And since you spend about 3 years of your life on the throne Grin what price comfort?

well, apparently it's a hundred and fifty quid.

sanfairyanne · 29/09/2014 09:10

how about extra high/ comfort toilet? is it the height thing? with him being tall?

cressetmama · 29/09/2014 09:23

It's not the height so much as the width of the seat. We've just come back from a gite in Brittany (Germanic style owners though!) and he's comparing our loos unfavourably... but I can't find an alternative in our local area.

The big john loo seat looks promising vital and many thanks for all the links, and so fast!

I think toilet bowls and even height is changed - however I have just measured and compared our modern toilet bowl with the old one in the downstairs loo and the measurements are the same.

Though I think the squary shaped modern ones with the small cisterns are smaller but I don't have one here to measure.

Looking at Victoria Plumbing they seem to be smaller front to back (including cistern) which makes sense in modern houses but otherwise much the same.

We have a German toilet and it is definitely bigger! Our 3 year-old can't sit on it without falling in and he is fine on a standard British toilet. It was here when we moved in. Maybe a German company would ship to you?

DH says it's all about the flush power, with the size, and it appears that loos have got smaller, to fit in modern houses and to save water in compliance with regulations. He is investigating antique options next. I despair!!

I hunted for larger loos when we did our bathrooms about 10 years ago. I sat on an awful lot of loos in an awful lot of shops!
I can't remember the exact name of the ones we bought, but pretty sure that they are by laufen.

doziedoozie · 01/10/2014 08:31

I got a traditional toilet bowl from a local plumbers. They probably have a traditional (say 1960s) cistern too. So try other than the chains.

Mintyy · 01/10/2014 08:36

I love a big loo with a chain and a cistern up near the ceiling! Still occasionally get the thrill of using one in Victorian properties round here.

doziedoozie · 01/10/2014 17:43

NO,no, I meant chains of stores selling bathrooms Confused

Not toilet pull chains!!

Though neighbour has one and it gives a very satisfying kerlunk! before a very substantial flush.
