What do you think of these bathroom and kitchen installation prices? No idea what is average.

Looking to get a new kitchen and bathroom. On a budget but needs to be nice. Have discounted B and Q due to reviews and like the look of Wickes plus I know a builder who is fussy and his stuff was from there so it can't be bad.

Had the plans done and got the quotes. I am happy with the price of the actual products but don't know if the installation is expensive or not. They have quoted £1703 for the bathroom, the suite including built in furniture, shower and screen. We have estimates for an extractor fan and other bits. DH will do the tiling but as there are so many tiles at the moment we are anticipating plastering needing to be done as we do not intend to tile as much of the bathroom that is done now. So it will end up costing about 2k we think.

The kitchen installation cost is £1920. This is for 16 units, work tops etc, sink. This room will also need skimming and we have been told to add another £100 for the upstand and splashback. So over 2k.

Do these prices sound reasonable? We also need to ask them if they are willing to move our washing machine into the shower room to make a utility room and install a radiator instead of the heated towel rail. The prices also include ripping out and disposing of the units/bathroom. I was going to see what local tradesman would quote but like someone pointed out, if they damage anything on installing it, we will have to pay out for another one. Wickes also guarantee their work for 2 years.

didn't want to leave you unanswered.

I'm waiting for a kitchen quote to come in and I'm hoping for less than that.

we also paid about £500 for a bathroom reorg and white bits fitted. tiled separately and floor about £300.

interested to hear in others

I am getting a kitchen fitted at the moment. If I had had it installed by the retailer it would have cost approx 2200. One fitter quoted me 3800, I nearly choked when I opened his email! The fitter I have gone with quoted me 1200. Kitchen is ten units, 2 sinks, worktop and appliances fitted. I am South East.

I asked the fitters how long it would take and they all reckoned about 6-8 days for one person to do it. So even allowing a couple of hundred quid for materials, and after vat, the guy who quoted 3800 was in effect charging me 350 a day for labour, which is ridiculous. By the same measure, the fitter who we have gone with works out at about 130 a day which I think is reasonable.

So its a little pricy maybe but not outrageously so?

Someone did point out to me that if you use an independent fitter and they damage something then you will have to pay out to get it sorted whereas if their own fitters do it then it would just be replaced. This has made me think it could be the lesser of 2 evils. What bugs me is all the bathroom suite/built in furniture is just under a grand but the fitting is nearly double that.

Similar kitchen installation quotes to procrast - we are in the North West.

Bathroom sounds slightly expensive but not shockingly so.

Also take into account CrapBag that if there are components short, and it delays the schedule, the fitter may well charge for wasted time in addition.

(She says having spent days chasing missing kitchen components for different projects! Grin)
