Anyone got a deck mounted handheld shower? Does it leak?

We're redoing a bathroom and want to put a handheld shower in as well as a fixed head shower over the bath.

We had one in a previous place, deck mounted in the bath rim, and from an aesthetic point of view we'd prefer to do that again, rather than have the hose on display. However water used to go down the hole in the bath rim unless we were very careful. And this bathroom will be used a lot by small DC.

So...do you have a deck mounted handheld shower? Does water go down the hole and has it caused any problems...? Any that don't "leak" in this way?

Thanks

I wish I'd thought to get the shower head deck mounted as the hose in the bath gets on my nerves. I can't imagine it would leak as long as it's turned off when put back?

Are your taps going at the end or middle of the bath? I regret having the taps in the middle of the bath, my DD's have both bumped their heads on the spout and we've all had scrapes. I wish I'd either got wall mounted taps or set the bath out a bit and mounted the taps on a tiled shelf, although I don't like tiled shelf areas as they usually go crappy.

What do you mean by hole?

Do you mean underneath the tap unit itself? If so that obviously wasn't sealed properly. If it is sealed right then it shouldn't leak.

If there is an exposed actual hole, then they really weren't fitted right! Smile

We've got one of those telephone style ones here and have never had any issues with leaking, except from the actual valve inside the tap which is a separate issue.

I think if you have one of these, which has pillar unions to the bath, then the contact surface between taps and bath is reduced making it easier to get a good seal on it.

If you are using a deck mounted version then there is a lot of tap in contact with the bath so you are more likely to get some gaps.

Attaching two pics - the telephone style one with pillars, and the deck mounted with the long flat bit sitting on the bath.

We have just (so can't really answer long term leak question) one of these fitted - there's a drain fed back into the waste so you shouldn't have water everywhere.

ooh thanks for the link didI that looks ideal! And I like the style of it too. Job done. Fingers crossed it works long term.

soonish if you look at didI's link you'll see what I mean by the hole - the shower is designed to sit in its own hole in the bath.

msmorgan we're going to have an exofil (so no sticky out tap) like this and the controls will be on the wall. hoping to have just one set of controls which can do the bath, fixed overhead shower and the deck mounted shower but not yet sure if that's possible!

here you go

Glad to be of assistance. We have ours mounted in the tiled sound around the bath to keep a cleaner look. There are other manufacturers of course - I think the search query you want is "follow me home shower". And check about the waste your bath has - if you can find a showroom that sells this stuff I'd get someone to check everything can go together.

Oh... And you need space with a smooth surface under the shower mount to stop it snarling up on pipes etc.

Sorry if that's too much detail - none of it is major work but you might as well learn from my mistakes....

thanks!

didI that all helpful! We won't have a tile surround around the bath so it'll have to be in the bath rim itself. Think we'll get the whole lot from crosswater (follow me shower, exofil + waste, and bath/shower controls) so hopefully it should all go together. They have a basin tap I like too Smile

I see what you mean about smooth surface/snarling up. Basically sounds like I need to make sure the builders actually put some boarding down under the bath to cover up any plumbing, rather than leaving it open "because the bath will cover it".

Our plumber connected everything just fine
but the connections were just below the shower, hanging in mid air. He had to move them out of the way.... You'll need a hole drilled in the bath (obviously!)

Yes I see. We'll be putting the handheld shower in the "foot" end of the bath, the other end from the overhead shower, and the exofil and plug will be in the middle so hopefully lots of space between everything to avoid tangling. But yes it would be worth him getting anything dangling out of the way.
