A glass floor panel - why?

In images 4 and 8 of this house, it looks like there is at least one, possibly two, glass panels set into the floor. Presumably they look down onto the swimming pool. I'm not bothered by heights and I've stood on glass floor panels in public buildings with no problem, but I really wouldn't want one (or two) in my living room. Shock Plus Ireland generally has a rather interpretive attitude to rules and regulations generally so I wouldn't be confident enough that they had met building regs to actually walk on the things.

I can't see the pictures... Btw, Ireland's somewhat imaginative approach to certain rules and procedures certainly doesn't extend to building regs. we're not completely stupid

I'd bet they're safe. Unnecessary, but safe.

Floggingmolly, I would be more inclined to agree with you if I didn't live in a house in Ireland, that we paid big bucks for, which flexes so much that little circles of plaster pop off where there are rivets in the wall upstairs and we have come to accept that the skylight will ALWAYS leak in heavy rain with a Westerly wind as none of the attempts to fix it have worked. More common in houses than you think -
Gets light into basement & allows them to show off to guests - "we have a pool down there"
I don't think they really work here but sometimes they are great.
This one unnerves me more - here

There's a millennium concept house on our estate. New build style. Was designed by the university to be all Eco etc. that has a glass panel floor to the landing. I guess it's to do with making the most of natural light.

Not sure if that was right: try again - www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-45270224.html

While I can see they would be to let some light into the basement, they do seem a bit random and I wouldn't like them in my house. Odd.

If we ever did a basement conversion I'd probably use glass panels on the ground floor to let more light down there, but I think I'd make them frosted to avoid vertigo/looking up skirts issues!
