tradespeople you've used and who left you feeling ripped off and / or unhappy with the job done?

Would love to hear your examples, for reasons of schadenfreude as much as anything.
Recently had professional interior paint job done, to save time as much as anything. Painter came recommended and was at higher end of quotes we got, so had high hopes.
We were unhappy with finished job but had already paid in full before paint had dried and finish issues became apparent (not sure how you get round the paying before paint has dried issue btw?!) Painter did come back, eventually, a few times, to fix the 'bigger' issues we weren't happy with, but there are still quite a few niggling issues but I don't have the energy to raise them with him too. (While I'm not a walkover by any means, I hate confrontation, especially with tradespeople and anyone who has to come back into the house etc.)

Basically, it's not the perfect finish I expected and I honestly think that if I had the time spare (and I don't!) I could do as good as job, if not better, myself, and saved £1200 to boot!

Maybe I'm expecting too much? DH thinks I'm being too perfectionist but I did expect more. I've felt the same way about a number of other small house jobs we've had done too. Tell me I'm not alone??!

What are the issues and why were they not apparent before the paint dried? Whenever I have had decorating done, the last day is mostly spent on woodwork and finishing etc so the paint is completely dry on the walls and probably has been for at least 24 hours so issues should have been apparent?

They're mainly on the woodwork. I think it's where the doors weren't rubbed down properly so there are some marks near the bottom (thankfully not too obvious) from the older paintwork.

And on one wall, I think he should have sanded it before painting over some test colour patches we'd done, but roughly. You can only notice it in certain lights which is why I didn't see it to start with.

We've had loads of work done this year but only one trade has been an awful experience.
We almost chucked the guy out mid job but that would have left is us with no facilities so we let him generally finish but after several chances to fix his mistakes we lost patience. We're holding our final payment & deducting the costs of fixing the problems via another professional. We ended up sending a very long letter detailing the issues and he has so far not contested our position.
If there are significant problems, payment has been made & the original trade can't/won't fix them you can chase for rectification costs via the small claims court - this route works best if you have evidence - photos/dates/correspondence to back up your case.

If its just general dissatisfaction then you may need to think more about how you vet trades - if quality is important ask for references & examples that you can see. Quality can have a certain level of perspective so something your friend thinks is fine, you might not think is quite good enough. You probably need to see work like this to make sure it will meet your expectations.
