Chain dilemma

We're currently in a bit of a dilemma and not sure how to proceed. So, looking for opinions and advice.

In early July, we accepted an offer on our house. Within 4 weeks, we had found a house to buy and put in an offer. Despite the fact that the house had been on the market for a year and the vendors were considering dropping the price for a second time, it took us nearly 2 weeks to get our offer(s) accepted. We were also led to believe that they wanted to move quickly. Over 4 weeks on, the vendors won't pass on their solicitors' details to us or the estate agents and are providing little or no info on their own search. Despite the fact that they are moving to a different part of the country, they have refused to break the chain. The only positive in that time is that they have removed the disused oil tank, which had been a condition of our offer. However, we're beginning to question their committment to sell and both ourselves and the estate agents acting for the vendors are getting frustrated.

Are we being unreasonable to expect some movement on this timescale? Or should we start looking at other houses? BTW, we still have our hearts set on this house. What would you do?

look at other houses.
if they are that lazy un-communicating now, how will it be when there are real issues and deadlines to work with.

Former conveyancing solicitor here. Sorry to say but if they won't give their solicitors details, its because they don't want to incur costs should they not proceed - in other words, they are not sure at this point in time that they will definitely go ahead.
It is usual for the agents to have the solicitors details within a week or less of the offer being accepted.
If they won't break the chain and they haven't found anywhere to buy, then you could be waiting for a very long time. They may decide not to move at all.
I'd keep looking for other properties ( although you don't need to mention this immediately). How long are your buyers prepared to wait? Are you in a position to break the chain? Although that might not be brilliant financially if property prices are rising fast in your area.

Hope that helps- sorry it's not more positive.
