Where to get a cheap but good bathroom and kitchen? And what about installation costs?

We need to replace both of these in our new house. I have been looking around in Home Base, Wickes and B and Q but I feel lost. We need to keep to a budget, ideally 5k for both with some of this needed for labour but we may be able to add a little to it for someone to install it.

I have looked online and seen some shocking reviews of B and Q and it has put me off. It needs to be affordable but I also want it to last. For the bathroom I want the sink and toilet that is built in to furniture as it looks neat and tidy and you are getting extra storage. Home Base did seem to have some nice built in furniture but. Don't know what the quality is like.

What would you recommend?

We are also going to have to pay someone to install it as DH has never done anything like this and he won't have the time. He will be able to do the tiling and decor, just not the actual bathroom/kitchen itself. What sort of prices are we looking at? I know Wickes will install it for you but is this likely to he much more than a local tradesman?

We are not SE so not expecting crazy prices.

I think IKEA or DIY Kitchens for the kitchen. Find a local (recommended) joiner to fit it (depending where you are, this is a daily rate). Quality better than the big diy superstores. Shop online for appliances (I have found great deals at Boots Appliances and even better if you go through Quidco).

For the bathroom, we've used online retailers (such as Ebay and Victoria Plumb). Keep things in the same place and it will keep costs down. We have used wallsandfloors for tiles (highly recommend), Tons of Tiles gets good reviews on here for v similar tiles to designer brands at a fraction of the cost, and Topps Tiles take Tesco Clubcard vouchers if that stretches the budget. Again get a plumber round for a day to switch over the suites and pay a daily rate.

Ikea. Our kitchen is going strong after two years and SIL has had hers for about ten!
You can use the ikea interest free loan for the kitchen which helps massively.

"Cheap but good" is asking a lot.

My good friend, who is a kitchen fitter, says Ikea is best for budget kitchens. I guess that might apply to bathrooms too?

Ikea for kitchens

my bathrooms came from online because I wanted back to wall units

Damn I forgot to say we are no where near an IKEA and I have heard they are a pain because their cupboards don't allow room for pipes etc.

Is Wickes any good? I have their booklets. What about Home Base? Or are they just both on par with B and Q for crapness?

Ikea deliver kitchens
and the stories about pipes are untrue

seriously, design your kitchen online with their planner, cost it and order it
easy and fun
