F&B stony ground/bedroom accessories colour?

I recently had my little girl's bedroom painted in stony ground and I love it, its my favourite colour of all. Due to the height of the window (odd shape) I ended up buying curtains in Pottery Barn in the US as I was finding it hard to buy curtains that didn't have a crazy price as the drop is so long.

I ordered pale pink curtains and now they have arrived, to my dismay they are candy pink. They are bloody awful and l have to return them.

The thing is I don't know what colour will go with this paint. The room is teeny tiny and the curtains take over half of one wall (again not a big window but an odd shape).

Does anyone have this colour paint and what colour curtains did you put with it. I definitely need curtains and not a blind/venetians etc. My head is actually sore from trying to find a good combination of colours. My instinct is deep orange but I can only choose from a limited collection and too much colour in the room will kill it completely (although not as much as the bubble gum pink curtains I already bought). Hideous - shudder!!!!

Thanks in advance!!!!

I don't think pink goes with that colour at all - not in any shade.

I think I would go for some classy, natural linen curtains and add the colour to the room with bedding, cushions and wall art.

We have stony ground in a bathroom and have a Venetian blind in roughly the same colour. I agree with Helena - I think you need natural/neutral shades to go with stony ground - off white, linen colour, khakis, stone colours, browns would work.

I think colours (like pinks or oranges) would only work if they were quite "grubby" versions of those colours iyswim?

You are absolutely right Helena and Minipie - thank you. I had hung up one of the curtains but couldn't bring myself to hang up the other one. I left the door open and everytime I walked past, I just cringed and thought it was terrible. I suppose I was reluctant to go to the expense of sending it all back to the US and paying for the postage. Today I have arranged to do just that.

I'll end up with store credit and will have to re-order, the problem really with buying online is that you're never quite sure of the colour. I want to add some colour though as it is a little girl's bedroom. I want to steer clear of pinks.

Natural colours will work and I can accessorise it. At least I know the length of the curtains will be correct and they are a nice quality. Thats something I suppose....hmmmmm

How about a neutral Ian Mankin or Clarke and Clarke stripe for some interest and then colour from art and cushions et as said before. If a really long drop maybe do a Swedish blind with two different fabrics. They are so easy to make and half as much fabric needed.

How about a neutral gingham? I do agree, keep it very neutral, varying shades of or even white.

HelenaQC · 06/09/2014 10:33

Neutral gingham would be stunning.

Thanks everyone again. The original curtains were supposed to be a pale pink gingham. Neutral would be great but were not available. I will end up with store credit so can only choose what they have available and they have to be blackout.

I think white might look too austere? Cream too boring (the woodwork is white).

It's a hard colour to accessorise in a bedroom!

Spotty - just looked at the Clarke & Clarke fabrics and I love them....but....I have store credit from Pottery Barn and really have to choose something from there.

Before today, I never even heard of a Swedish blind, just googled them and they look great. I need blackout though and also the front of the house has all venetian blinds and I'd like to keep them uniform.
