White spacer bars on double glazed windows

Do they go off-white/yellow tinge after a few years? Would like to know if they are worth avoiding as we have a choice between black or white in between the double glazing. Preference for white if they don't discolour.

Ours haven't, after 8 years.
Definitely prefer white too.

the ones I have seen don't go white.

However they do look a very unconvincing imitation of Georgian panes.

PigletJohn · 04/09/2014 22:44

don't go yellow I mean.

Ours are still bright white after 23 years, as are the frames.

that's good to know yours haven't discoloured. to be honest I'm not crazy about seeing the spacer bar in either white or black but there aren't many alternatives if you go with aluminium or steel replacement.

? did you mean the squares to replicate georgian panes, or did you mean the filler round the edge? I thought the edges were usually silver. If you mean the edge, maybe something the colour of the frames would look least obtrusive.

I think the OP is describing replacements for either Georgian sash windows or the Crittal metal windows that were originally multi planed and will be replaced with one double glazed hint and dummy bars sandwiched between the 2 sheets of glass

You know that you can get "stick-on" glazing bars which sound very dodgy but actually look much better- the bar is outside the glass so it looks like separate panes with an extra spacer inside, lined up. Is that the spacer you mean, as opposed to the plastic white strips inside the unit with nothing outside?

@RaisingSteam: yes, that's what I mean. We have seen those in black (blends in from afar, but kind of stands out against the white frames when near the window) and in white (blends in more, but allegedly can turn yellow-ish over time). Hence the question...

Ah, ours are the old-fashioned style, spacers inside the sealed unit. Was all that was available in the early '90s. The ones on the outside look much more realistic than ours.

RaisingSteam · 07/09/2014 21:25

I see what you mean. We have those on our wooden windows, spacers are silver/aluminium, same as the edge spacer. It's one of those things that once it's installed, you never look that close!

wafflesandcream · 14/09/2014 11:12

silver probably are a good compromise and won't discolour so will check that out!
