Want to make small changes but finding tradesmen exhaust me

I have a lovely house but it is seriously unfinished. Little things like needing to sort out a radiator in a room, which needs to be done before the new fire, which needs to be done before the new floor and new furniture. The thought of finding and organising three different people while trying to hold down a job sends me into a sweat. Every room is the same - needs low level attention but the jobs are fiddly and can't be done by the same people.

It's been like this for years because I can't spare the time to manage this like a project. What i need is a fairy with a magic wand to come in and get me sorted.. Does anyone working FT feel the same? Any solutions?

Hire a trustworthy builder to take on the entire job and he will arrange the subcontractors.

We had a similar problem and eventually did as Polonium suggested, hired a local builder to sort it all out. There were a few cock-ups with timings but nothing they didn't rectify.
Our budget didn't stretch to getting the decorating done though, so we have been doing that ourselves bit by bit as time allows - and I am only now, 2 years after the builders left, beginning to feel like we might one day have a house that looks like a home! Still got a way to go.
I sympathise with your situation, OP. When you work FT, there is so little time or energy left for doing these things.

Thanks both.. A decent builder seems to be gold dust around here (SE) - they want the big ticket jobs like extensions and not the small jobs and often won't even quote! Glad that I am not the only one who has felt this way though..

LePetit I just realised this would be my dream job. Project management for people like you.

I've had real success using websites like ratedpeople. I am aware i'll sound like an advert but honestly I have :-)

The people who have responded to me through it have always been fab, courteous and keen to work. I suppose it's because they have to actually want the work in order to even look on the website for jobs.

Not sure how useful it is outside of the SE though. My mum apparently hasn't had much success with it in the midlands.
