www.nottenergy.com/energy_cost_comparison should help.

We have this - we run 2 banks of 2 47kg cylinders to power radiators in a 3 bed semi, although the extension has storage heaters. We can use the gas boiler to heat hot water, but we mainly use the eletric shower and the immersion heater on Economy 7 overnight tarrif

Honestly, it's not so bad. 2 cylinders is about £120 delivered, and that lasts us months in the summer - it's not unusual for us to go from May until September/October without buying gas. That said, one cold winter we got through two cylinders in 2 weeks but we weren't being particularly frugal with our heating. We probably replace the gas once a month/once every 6 weeks in the winter. We do have a log burner to help heat the house though and we both work FT so we're not around much during the day.

I have LPG for my old drafty 3 bed cottage... It's for hot water & heating. In the summer a bottle can last 6 weeks but we shower rather than bath & I'm quite frugal don't leave hot tap running full up kitchen sink with the hot water after I've boiled kettle, quick showers that type of thing.

With the heating on I can get through 2 bottles in under 4 weeks... & that's with a frugal use of the heating & a log fire. They cost £62 per 47kg cylinder but price can vary.

Last winter I could cry at how much it was costing but compared locally to the oil (no mains gas in area) it costs more or less the same.

It is more expensive than mains gas and than oil, in general.
The maths is here suite.io/deborah-percy/4c76225

Even some form of electric heating might be better depending on the house and I certainly would not consider putting in LPG if I was building a new house.
But why the question?

We had calor gas with a large tank in the front garden when we moved in. We put up with it and an ancient boiler for 2 years and then the prices started to rocket. We were paying about 200 a month and still not warm in the winter, but it is quite a poorly insulated and drafty house. We switched to lovely German electric heaters. Everyone thought we were mad and it would be hugely expensive to run but we are pleasantly surprised - we pay roughly 100 a month on balance, which includes hot water and heating. The radiators are individually controlled and the house it much warmer than it was. Plus the vile tank has gone! And we don't have to worry about refilling etc, it feels like we are much more in control. If there is no gas in your area I would def recommend switching to electric.
