Earthborn (and other eco) paint question

VeryLittleGravitasIndeed · 27/08/2014 22:08

I want to paint the house (inside). I'd prefer to use low VOC / eco paint, because chemical fumes tend to make me sneeze and I don't like them. And also DD is still little, I don't want her poisoned by the paint...

I like the colour range of Earthborn paints but my problem is I can't find any online info on how family friendly these sorts of eco paints are. Can sticky fingerprints be washed off for example? Has anyone used them and love living with them? Or hated them?

I'd rather not have to paint every year if I can avoid it so low maintenance and durable is ideal! All advice welcome.

Can't help with earthborn, but have you considered Little Greene intelligent paints?

your daughter will not be poisoned by the paint unless she drinks it. All paints are chemicals.

We have 'naturepaint' in one room of our house, not for eco reasons but because the walls are 300 years old and need to breathe out the damp. You mix it up with water and it smells of stale milk as it dries. The finish is fragile and not durable. We don't mind (and it may improve as the wall sheds years of damp) but it doesn't meet your criteria at all.

No experience of that brand but I'm planning to use Ecos paints as their colour range is great and from what I've read, they are very safe for people and pets etc.

Let's agree to disagree on that shall we special?

I've read similar about casein based paints. Our walls are new so don't need to breathe, so it's useful to know that the finish is fragile.

Pink have you used the little Greene one? How does it hold up to wear?

This is the kind of thing that concerns me:

yes, well, obviously there will be paint fumes and possibly-harmful compounds while the paint dries, which may take some time. And obviously you don't paint the nursery just before the baby arrives!

Baby has well and truly arrived, this isn't a pregnant nesting thread Hmm

I don't particularly want to poison myself either. Research is indicating that certain types of VOC are implicated in the development of childhood asthma and allergies, and the outgassing goes on for years not just when drying. As I have both asthma and allergies I'm quite keen to avoid anything that can cause them. Which I think is perfectly reasonable. If you don't know what you're talking about then you should probably avoid such blanket statements.

Has anyone else used any eco paints?
