Have builders wrecked my lovely new sink ...??

We are in the middle of some pretty big building work - kitchen is fitted but other things like bathrooms etc still going on. I came back today to find a big horrible white stain in the bottom of my brand new stainless steel sink (along with a few scratches too)!!! Aaarrrgg!! Nothing seems to shift it - I'm guessing they've had buckets in there today getting water for plastering and so on, and something has reacted with the steel.

Can I do anything to save it? I could cry with frustration!
Thanks in advance for any suggestions Thanks

God, no idea but sounds like a nightmare! im sure you'll be diplomatic when you speak to them.

Assuming it's connected up, etc try putting some bio washing powder and enough warm water to cover whatever it is in the sink and see if that loosens it. Very, very annoying.

I had to stop the builders at work from mixing plaster in the kitchen with one of those industrial hand blender things last week. Just as they were about to launch plaster dust over everything.

Scratches won't come off but you'll soon create more with your own use of the sink. Bleach can stain stainless steel- did they put some in?? I'd be asking for replacement pronto. Our builders have an outdoor tap for all needs, they don't touch our things indoors (even those they installed). I feel for you. Building work is stressful enough without this shit.

I would tell them you want the sink replacing if the mark doesn't easily come off. When I had a new kitchen fitted a few years ago, the tiler ruined the gloss worktop by failing to put anything on it to protect it while he stacked the tiles up, etc. It looked like a skating rink by the time he had finsihed and had to be replaced.

I'd it's a white and grainy stain I'd be thinking they had out something slightly caustic in it.
