Replacing and moving a gas fire (with pic)

So, we bought a do-er upper a while back and now it is the turn of the front lounge and its fugly fireplace to be done. This fire is in the middle of the long outside wall so takes up a lot of space. I'm considering moving it and creating a corner fireplace (would still be accessible to outer wall) and would appreciate any tips or inspiration about styles.

The only advice I can give is to make sure you use a properly qualified gas fitter.

I agree that the fire is ugly and dated. We used to have one like that about 30 years ago.

Hi Bun, yes we bought the house from a very elderly lady who had lived here since 1950. I think she said it was installed in the late 70s, was probably the height of trendy then.

what a splendid retro item. :-) don't bin it, sell it!

get a gas safe person round to assess what can be done. There are rules about where flues can go so that's your first step.

worth noting that modern gas fires may look better but are still very inefficient.
