Cost of installing sprinkler system as opposed to ground floor fire door in ref loft conversion.

Hi, we have the plans all drawn up for our new loft conversion, and structural calculations which have been approved by the local council. Currently waiting for the loft conversion company to prepare me a fixed price quote based on this information (so far they've given me a 'ball park' figure). I've asked the architect whether there was any alternative to a fire door on the ground floor between the hall and kitchen (we currently have an archway) and he has replied that the only alternative may be a sprinkler system throughout the house (currently 3 bedroomed mid-terraced Victorian, will be adding 2 rooms & en-suite in loft). Would any of you have any rough idea how much this would cost and how disruptive? as it is we will be having ceilings dropped on the first floor to facilitate height in the second.
Many thanks in advance

Bear in mind that a sprinkler system will require maintenance and servicing. Bound to be more expensive than a door.

Not to mention ruinous. Think of how often your smoke alarm goes off when you burn toast. Then think about sprinklers coming on every time and damaging your carpets, furnishings, laptops, etc. bad idea. Go for the door. You can get fireproof glass fire doors if you're concerned about light.
