If you have a living room/diner what do you call it for buildings insurance?

The house we are hopefully moving to took the wall down between the front room and dining room, making it one big room. Does this count as 1 reception room? When I was filling in the mortgage application, the advisor didn't know and said it was up to me but when I sort out the buildings insurance I want to know for definite. In my mind it is 1 big room so I would only say 1 reception room or would you list 1 living room and 1 dining room even though they are together?

One would think that one room is one room, regardless of which furniture is put in it. Would be difference if there were door that could be closed to make two separate spaces, I suppose. But, yeah, if in doubt add a covering letter.

Yeah I would describe it as one room, as it is. One big room. Smile

Then one room it is, surely?
Saying 'one dining room and one reception room' makes it sound as if the house has more room than it does, which would certainly be 'wrong', you'd think. Confused

Yes that's what I thought. I think it threw me a bit when the mortgage advisor didn't know what to put and asked me what I thought when I described it to him. It made me think.

It would be classed as 1 reception room.
