Hot tub and fish

Nope, not planning to keep fish in a hot tub Shock

Buying a house with a massive pond containing 11 huge koi carp (I think, not a fish spotter) plus a hot tub.

We don't want either as we have young kids and I think they're too much of a hazard. I also don't want to keep fish.

  1. How easy is it to sell/ give away fish?
  1. Originally thought of ebaying the hot tub but worried get saddled with it then cost/ hassle of getting a van to remove it
  1. We will do the garden in time. What would you do with the drained pond in the meantime - don't want to leave water and go stagnant or have cost of running pump....

Am speaking to solicitor to see about making it a requirement for vendor to get rid of fish and hot tub....

No idea.

But there is also a Fish topic (www.mumsnet.com/Talk/fishnet), you could try posting the fishy q's there too? Grin

You can get metal grills to cover ponds if you still like the idea of the pond but just need it to be safe.

Rogerthatmummy · 11/08/2014 14:50

Brill thanks - maybe a local MNetter wants them!

Tbh I just about manage to keep kids fed and clean - don't want to take on responsibility for fish too as it would end up being me that does it

Apart from anything else the pond is about 2.5m square so takes up a lot of garden so keen to get rid

Thanks for the idea of the grill though thistle

Are the old owners not taking the fish?? You'd think they would want to.

Rogerthatmummy · 11/08/2014 14:56

They said they'd happily leave them ...

I think these sort of fish aren't cheap, no? I was surprised but they are moving to a place on the river so I guess dont want pond as they have the river?

My friend recently sold her house with a huge koi pond and hot tub. But they took the hot tub with them and sold the koi. So left an empty drained and cleaned pond. There pond was big enough to be an overground pool it was massive with waterfalls etc. they asked the buyer if they wanted the fish but the buyers wanted it emptied and drained, so
I would just say the same to your sellers.

BertieBotts · 11/08/2014 15:56

Yes I think they're supposed to be quite expensive. Probably put an ad in the local paper for them?

Rogerthatmummy · 11/08/2014 22:40

ThaNks everyone

Rang the solicitor and said get the vendors to remove fish and hot tub ... Can't be bothered with the hassle of them

Now what to do with an empty pond...? Confused

Do you know how much koi carp can cost? Full grown ones are £100's are you sure they are being left behind?

I would get a specialist to value them.

coolaschmoola · 11/08/2014 23:02

Full grown rare koi can go into the tens of thousands..... Even more common ones are worth hundreds.

I would have told them to leave the fish - they could have paid for your landscaping!

Rogerthatmummy · 12/08/2014 07:14

Burnished Grin

I don't know - when we viewed they said they didn't mind leaving them...

On one hand tempted to keep them and sell on but would be a fair effort alongside settling into new house, with dd1 starting school the next week....

Large sand pit or sunken trampoline enclosure?

BertieBotts · 12/08/2014 09:56

I would get them to leave them too! If you can be arsed tracking down a dealer it might be worth something :) You could just keep the DC away from the pond or cover it with a metal grill (you could feed the fish through the grill) until they are gone.
