Gorgeous...£11.00/sqm...would I be mad to have some in my new house? Thinking our bedroom & the hallway at least. Will have some sort of stair runner....any helpful suggestions from carpet experts on here?

The hallway is just about the last place I'd plan to have cream carpets... except maybe the kitchen and bathroom Wink But the bedrooms - fine. Maybe stairs and landing too, if you're a shoe-free kind of household.

HortenMarket · 30/07/2014 08:41

Wow! It would look nice but for how long? Especially for the hall and stairs. We are a shoe free house and have a biscuit coloured carpet throughout the house we fitted 7 years ago (its 80 wool 20 nylon) and it looks ok but darker where everyone walks (in socks). And we've had it cleaned twice. You'd be a braver woman than me!

Lelivre · 30/07/2014 08:52

I've had off white/cream before kids. Never again. I go for a sort of tea stained (biscuit) colour having learned my lesson.

PigletJohn · 30/07/2014 09:29

my trade contacts advise 80/20,not pure wool.

Cream in hall and stairs is certainly a bad idea. It's OK in the bedrooms of people who don't drink tea, coffee, wine or squash, or use cosmetics.

If you do get them, please try to remember that when your daughter in law walks, spills and drops things on them, she really doesn't mean to and really wishes she could disappear when the whole family goes rigid until the mess is mopped up. aaaaaaaargh!

We have just such a carpet in one of our bedrooms - it's lovely.

externalwallinsulation · 30/07/2014 11:57

I have 80/20 cream carpets in two of our upstairs bedrooms. Was talked out of wood by DH who thought it would be cold. It is lovely underfoot, but very unforgiving. Even though we are very careful, it is already stained in places. I wouldn't buy it again.

PastaBow · 30/07/2014 12:03

If you don't have any acrylic content you'll find it hard to clean stains off IME.

We have 100% wool in hall, stairs and landing previous owners had put down. They are flecked through with darker wool so not completely cream. They are gorgeous but if anything is dropped on them or trodden in they do not clean well.

A bit of shock for me as I always pick a bleach cleanable carpet.

PigletJohn · 30/07/2014 12:14

AFAIK bleach-cleanable carpet is polypropylene

I have had some, it looks and feels fine. The "twist" pile is resistant to flattening e.g. under furniture or walkways, but I think it does flatten more than 80/20. Hoovering helps bring it up.

Thefishewife · 30/07/2014 19:53

Me to went for wool and cream never never again were having wood when we move it's all bobbly like a wooly jumper and it's looks really dirty and I don't have shoes in my home

TheStorySoFar · 30/07/2014 20:10

Oh kungfoo, poor you! I feel your pain; I spilled coffee on a cream sofa once. Was visiting people I didn't know v well to deliver a baby gift. Oops....
Thk you all. Think I'll forget the 100% wool & get 80/20 at least. Cream probably is a bad idea with 4 small children too. Oh well. I can dream...

Thestory - is a great deal and I see why you are tempted it would look amazing when first put down!

warmmeup · 31/07/2014 14:10

we have them in the lounge, dining room and stairs. have had for over 20 years in 2 houses.
Not sure if 100% might be 80-20.
We have a very strict shoes off policy and most guests don't need asking but it can be embarrassing if they want to walk in with muddy shoes.

we did spill black tea in the lounge and it didn't come out completely but was covered by the insurance so we had the carpt replaced.

SquinkiesRule · 31/07/2014 19:16

I'd do bedrooms only in that, and then only if you don't have teens who use make up or take food upstairs.
We are redoing all our carpets, something hardy for stairs and landing (I'd like a similar colour to the living rooms). Tile in the downstairs hall, and the living rooms are having a 80/20 wool blend that is more oatmeal with flecks of darker colours in.

BackforGood · 31/07/2014 19:26

Your bedroom only.
No way I'd have cream in a main living area, and DEF not in the hallway - even if you didn't have 4 small dc Shock
