You spent money on WHAT? (Rightmove thread)

So, flicking through Rightmove, we've all the seen the granny-ish interiors. Often understandable enough though if an old couple have been living there, it's what they liked or couldn't be arsed to change. But why (oh, why) when a house has clearly been built or refurbed by a developer do they spend huge amounts of money on such crazy shite and then expect to recoup it in the price?

Exhibit A

What kind of bloody PHILISTINE lays decking over an entire garden?? Using a non-sustainable product like wood to destroy what could be a natural habitat for wildlife. Nice one. Not to mention it's going to be green and horrible in about 1 year in the British climate. And the living room floor? A nice, shiny, slippery marble. Just what you want in a family sized home. Hmm

I really want to do knee skids across the shiny floor.

That's gorgeous Softly - what part of the world is Pennington ?

I'm with OP in her opinion of the first 2 linked to. The whole marble kitchen is so out of proportion with the size/type of the accommodation, and the sauna look decking is awful.

That price looks normal for Bishops Stortford at the mo tbh as depressing as that is. I live in another commuter town not too far away from there and the prices are just mad. We can't afford to move up from our very small 3 bed house without paying over £300k. I would love a house like that lovely Victorian one above.

Every house round here that a developer has got their hands on looks a lot like that Storford one too....lots of marble tiling, multiple ensuite sand decking!

back it's the northwest.

It's not that bad you know!

Shiny marble/porcelain floors are something that has already dated in my opinion - it just makes me think shopping mall rather than house.
The decking I can just about cope with as you need to remember it's looking so blank now it's at it's worst.
We had a partially decked yard in our old house as it was a reasonable way of covering the awful concrete. Ours wasn't slippery or slimy even after 10yrs. We covered it with raised beds & pots & it was a good courtyard garden.

Gosh, No Softly - it's the direction I'd move in if I ever moved away from where I live. Hope I didn't inadvertently imply otherwise. I'm no Southerner - I'm in the Midlands, and agog at some of the prices of properties people post on here sometimes. I was just saying how lovely that house looked - and actually looks like a real home people live in, unlike so many of the bland show homes on so many property photos.

Thinks I spend too much time looking at property considering I couldn't face ever trying to sell.

back no I didn't think you were implying other wise !

That house is lovely though isn't - real nice family home.
