Dislike the paint after the first coating - can I second-coat with different paint?

You'd think I've found the right colour for our bedroom after the trouble we went.

Unfortunately Dulux Mineral Mist looks much more like a baby boy blue than what I wanted.

It's still a light paint. Can I go and buy a different paint as second coating to make it less baby boy blue? Or does my DH have to sand it all away and start all over again?

Different paint colour, not different paint!

Sand it all away?? Confused
Of course you can paint over the top!

hyperspacebug · 25/07/2014 21:25

That'd be worst case scenario that I am hoping is unnecessary :))

There are options:

  • paint over with better choice colour
  • white primer again on top and then colour?

Just paint over with a better choice of colour, no need to faff about with primer :-)

MuttonCadet · 25/07/2014 21:28

Agree if it's light you can just paint over.

Just paint over. No sanding, no primer. See how one coat looks. You might get away with it but I suspect it'll need 2.

you don't use primer on walls, if that's what you mean.

If it is woodwork, gloss will stick to fresh gloss better than undercoat will. You will find it difficult to sand a modern low VOC paint which is anywhere near new, it will go into tiny balls, not dust.

Just used that on my living room, I like it!Grin
But just painting over it will be fine!
