Is it possible to have gravel/stone chips on a sloping driveway? I'm preparing to be laughed off the thread Blush

Yes and no. SIL has it, and has a plastic netting grid underneath to prevent them all from sliding down the hill into the lane. But they still do a fair bit.
You will need to do a fair bit of raking/replenishing.

Ah-ha - plastic netting! I had a feeling that it could be done, I just didn't know how. Thanks very much for that.

It's a short, gentle slope, which slopes towards the house, rather than the road, so we shouldn't lose stones... but will probably just be endlessly raking them back up again.

Surely raking of stones is a pocket money earner? How old are your children Grin

Think you could look at the plastic mats they use on fields to allow car parking, like this (not the best pictures but they sell this in builders merchants)

It will take the weight of cars, plus you can over-fill it and it would give you a nice level when you have to rake it.

oooh Sidewinder I like your thinking on the child-labour front Grin

Thanks for the link. The house we're buying has a grim, ugly concrete front but would look lovely, I think, with a cotswold stoney coloured gravel drive.

Have you considered bonded gravel? Looks the same but doesn't go anywhere!

culturemulcher · 24/07/2014 19:59

Bonded gravel? what is this? will google!

have googled.

Looks good in the photos... but does it look a bit like pebble dashing IRL?
