Can I have tiles or lino on a hall floor, if I have a wooden kitchen floor and ..

Carpet on the stairs, or will it just look too bitty?

I have floorboards in the kitchen, but the ones in the hall don't match and will need replacing and insulating .. So either carpet, or something else is the answer, but carpet in a downstairs hall running from front door through to kitchen just gets so much foot traffic, it'll get very grubby.

Anyone dealt with this issue?

I'm looking at Harvey Maria, Lino, tiles, and generally just doing my head trying to figure out an affordable and practical solution that also looks good.

Help!

We had carpet in a hall way (rented house, not our choice) and it was cream - twin toddlers and a new baby in a pram. We managed to keep it clean, had a runner etc but it wouldn't be my choice. It was hard work. I think you need something that is easy to clean (we have solid bamboo - would recommend). The only thing I would say is that you need to factor in levelling the floor - if you have tiles for instance, would they raise the floor level to a level above your kitchen floorboards? That might also be the case if you have carpet and underlay, especially if you just have floorboards in the kitchen.

Have got carpet in hall currently, just very old stuff. Either more carpet, or lino type thing would be suitable.. I think a ceramic tile would be too high, as you said.

I've sent off for samples of coloured vinyl for the floor...just not at all sure hot to coordinate the three areas, with texture and colour, so thought I'd ask for input !
