Changing the shower head/fitting rented property.

Please help oh wise ones..
I couldn't possibly be any less educated when it comes to DIY, unfortunately my husband is even worse, in so much as he isn't even interested to learn. Beyond putting up pictures I've never done anything much else.

We are in a rented house, and have been for 4 years. The shower head is lousy, and as we all ( 5 of us) use it constantly, it would be better to have a better quality one so we can at least enjoy a decent shower.
The LL won't change it, I'm not even going to ask - I know she has no money spare, and essentially this one works, so it's a pointless question.

My budget is next to nothing though, so was wondering how difficult it is to replace with a new one? Will I be looking at re-tiling and a whole new system etc? I really can't afford that kind of palaver, but if I could have a new shower with as little expense as I can get away with , it will make huge difference.

Thanks in advance for input and advice.

is the shower head fixed onto the wall? What sort of shower is it?

To add - it's a rail & hose/handset type system - not a hidden type with wall mount.
The thermostat box, rail etc are all on the tiled wall.

if it has a hose then you can normally unscrew the shower head from the hose and replace it with another one. We did it the other day with a shower head we bought from Lidl.

We did this to ours the other day with our ensuite (rented property). Our LLs have no issues at all with us doing things like that. We got a new hose and head from Screwfix for about £20 all in, but places like B&Q and Argos are other good places to go if you arent near to one. The hose should unscrew from the base of the unit and a new one will come with the washers and all the bits you need, unless it's more complicated than that.

have also bought new shower heads from home bargains.

if the hose is ok then you can buy just the shower head or you can buy sets with both a hose and shower head. They just unscrew and then you screw the new ones in place (remembering the washers)

OOh, sounds easy enough even for me! Thanks a bunch folks!

just the shower head? That's easy.

to check the obvious - is it blocked with scale?

escape · 15/07/2014 19:50

Specialsubject There is a bit of that, but to be honest, it would be brilliant to have a really good one - makes such a difference doesn't it!?

It all depends on the water pressure. A shower head can't change that.

I would clean the showerhead with descaler first.
in a diy store you can get new head+hose sets, very easy to replace.
