Freestanding kitchens - do you have one? Do you love it?

We are just about to move to a new house where we are planning to extend and fit a new kitchen. I'm toying with the idea of freestanding, I have looked at some online but not in person.

What do you like about yours? What's the drawback?

Drawback is the value of the house on resale. And the housework to get behind the units clean.

The pros are the same as any other kitchen.

Yes, I had seen some with gaps at the bottom of the units - seems like a major faff!

People I know who have them, don't actually envisage moving with them, surely defeats the point though?

I don't think they make the best use of space but that might not be an issue in a large kitchen. I think they look lovely

My dad has one - it looks lovely because it's a big room in a Georgian house, so fitted would look out of place. He has two gorgeous larder cupboards and some low units - all antique pine.

No issue with cleaning under the cupboards, any more than in another room. Also, when he had a shift around recently it was quite straightforward.
