We have just got back from a week's holiday to find our kitchen overrun by ants! Any advice on how to kill the little critters?!

Lots of wet-mopping to clean up all traces of spilled sugary drinks, food crumbs, and around pet bowls

And Nippon liquid, which comes in a tiny tube like toothpaste, and is the best ant killer.

Yes I second Nippon and being careful sealing food in cupboards and wiping up spills. Nippon doesn't work straight away but I find it does the job in a few days.

Dethlac works very well too.

I tried everything. The ant stop bait station was the only thing that provided a long term solution.

Those ant stop bait stations are amazing. We were plagued with them during spring and we kept the kitchen spotless but they just kept coming back. Put down those bait stations and within a week they were totally gone.

another recommendation for ant bait station. They had a path going right through the house so put 2 at strategic points and they were gone in a few days.

Ant bait station where they come in, plus try and find the nest.

We had this one year. We tried the usual Nippon and bait stations but they weren't very effective.

We were recommended Deathlac and it was amazing.

We had this recently. Couldn't tell you how many ants I vacuumed up while cleaning out the pantry.

I sprayed white vinegar around the shelves as I cleaned them, and in front of the pantry - all the places I could see ants coming in. This worked for a few weeks. And then we had our bathroom renovated and the workmen found where the ants were getting into the house, put down loads of anti-ant powders and so on, and sealed it all up again. No more ants!

The vinegar seems to work really well, though. I used it at the back door of our building and there have been no more ants there since then either (that's about 2 months ago). So if you don't like all the harsh chemicals, or are worried about small children (like me) then you could give that a try.

I found the solution to this last year. once you have cleared up all the ants find where they are coming in. Cover holes with blue tack job done no more ants. I did use the bait stations to but it didn't totally kill the nest through. Stopping them getting in the house was the best answer I've had yet.

Yes - find out where they are coming in. Only way.
