painting kitchen cabinets

Kitchen cabinets are currently an off white/cream colour with a dark wood lip, they had really horrible handles which were the dark wood as well but we have since replaced with silver handles to match the larder unit we bought.

Does anyone have any tips on painting the cabinets - white/white gloss? The kitchen itself is going to be slate grey in colour and has black/grey & black splashback (no tiles).

Thanks

I did it once as an experiment when we were thinking we might rescue our old kitchen rather than replace it. Just did one door and it really didn't work very well, despite using the appropriate primer and kitchen door paint. I was lazy and didn't take the door off as you are meant to in order to paint it flat, so, because of the paint consistency, ended up with runs and it didn't look too good!

Tried it and the paint was ok but expensive - would have needed 3 x coats per door. Was cheaper to buy new doors

We found someone to spray-paint our kitchen doors. They did it in a workshop, using a mixture of glue and paint to the colour of our choice. We had to take off all the doors, hinges and handles ourselves, and I drove it down to this industrial estate that would be perfect for the scene of a murder. Then we had to re-hang all the doors and fixed on some nice new handles. So a bit of a kerfuffle but we have a lovely new look kitchen for very little cost. The paintwork has lasted very well so far.
