Gas Fires

I'm looking at replacing our very old fashioned gas fire either with a simple hole in the wall fire or a gas wood burner style and wondered if there are any particularly good brands or any to avoid? We don't have a chimney and have been advised to look at balanced flue fires and to avoid flueless ones.

This type of thing hole in wall

or stove

with a balanced flue, the burning section has to be sealed from the room. the open-looking fires have a pane of glass in front of the "logs" or "coals" which looks very artificial.

A stove-looking thing may look convincing.

I agree about avoiding flueless fires.

Thanks PigletJohn - I was hoping you would reply! Grin

Are there any particular brands you would recommend? TIA

If I was to have a gas fire I would also go for balanced flue and avoid flue less.
In case you are unsure of the reason, a fire with balance flue will not effect the quality of air in the room.

A flueless fire releases products of combustion into the room and is associated with quickly rising CO2 and NO2 levels - even when there is ventilation in the room. These gases can make you feel tired and a bit sick.

Thanks MrsTaraPlumbing I will definitely avoid the flue less fires.
