Red metro tiles

Will they work with a high gloss cream kitchen? If so, I was wondering if there's anything like the gorgeous Fired Earth metro tiles (they don't do them in red)?

I will be using this wallpaper too.

I think Topps do a red version. With a glossy cream kitchen I'd be a bit concerned it might look like a diner or a caff though. Even with that lovely, expensive gulp wallpaper.

Thanks! Do you think it's the colour what wouldn't work, or the fact that it's glossy? What alternative would you use, mosaic tiles, maybe?

OP I'd definitely get some samples in situ and take your time making up your mind.

I got samples from HERE cheap and very quick service, although I see they don't do red metro tiles Sad

Personally I think I'd find it an overwhelming colour scheme that would be hard to live with, but then I prefer the stuff that's hard to change, like tiles, to be neutral and I go for brighter stuff around the kitchen, so it can easily be swapped if I go off it.

Hi OP - it's the colour of the tiles I would be worried about. I agree with the other poster about picking a more neutral tile colour and being able to change less permanent elements when you want to.

The wallpaper is very striking so with red tiles I think it would be very full on. Also from the sample you linked to the orangey red colour isn't a bright red and red tiles plus red accessories might serve to emphasise that colour difference.

In the past I had glossy worktops and matt tiles as I thought all glossy would be too much. The tiles were great and different from what most people seem to go for. But I think red tiles would just be too much.

Oh, no! I was so sure it was a fab colour scheme. The wallpaper is already on with my old kitchen units - it is certainly striking, but in a good way, I think. But then I've got cream tiles and a brown wood-effect kitchen, which is a more neutral combination.

Ok. What colour would you go for? Or perhaps I get rid of the paper altogether?

Wowfudge, could you find a link to the matt tiles in your kitchen, please?

Hi Rosa - I had a look and unfortunately I couldn't find a link. They were the same shape and size at the metro tiles, but matt white. Definitely from Topps because I chose wall and floor tiles from there in the same trip. Not sure they still do them, but someone will have something similar at least, surely? I was sad to leave that lovely kitchen for the shitty little one we have now.

Porcelanosa usually have a range of tile finishes so maybe they have something?

I think with a brand new kitchen I would lose the wallpaper and take a fresh look - or maybe keep it on one wall if it's on several now and you really love it. It depends what kind of look you are aiming for, the natural light in the room, etc. You could take one colour from the paper and use that on the walls. You don't have to stick to one tile colour either - you could add rows of a different/stronger colour in the same tile. I would steer clear of mosaic as I think it's had its day (although some of it does look lovely) and there's lots of grout to clean between the little tiles!

Not to everyone's taste, but Kelly Hoppen has some good ideas for really lovely combinations of muted colours and different textures and you can add stronger colour to that. Your cream kitchen will work with lots of different things. Sometimes very modern can look really good against something with a vintage look - I'm not saying shabby chic because I don't mean shabby!

Rosa the link I gave you has loads of colours of Metro tiles, large and small, matt and gloss and much cheaper than Fired Earth even with their sale on.

White Matt

I think the samples are 99p each free of postage and packing and they have white, cream, grey, graphite, duck egg blue, jade etc.
I'd definitely order some and see them in situ against your units, worktop and wallpaper.

LINK to Metro Tiles

Their Masia tiles are nice too.

I have these in Lime House green (but at half the price of Fired Earth!) from here....www.tonsoftiles.co.uk/browse/4-wall-tiles/14-crackle-glaze-75x15cm/399-hyde-park-green?

It used to be called Lime House green but looks like they have changed the names recently. They are definitely from the same factory as the fired earth ones though!

We are just about to do our small toilet downstairs and I am going to go for the nice grey ones!
