Is there anything we can do or say? Re:completion?

I'm in such a frustrating situation. This bloody house buying/moving malarkey is the most stressful thing! We have been itching to move as we have a little one who is rapidly outgrowing our 1 bed flat.

After lots of procrastination from our managing agents, contracts have been finally been signed. There are 3 in the chain, our (cash) buyer, us and the vendors of 'our house'.

We can move anytime. Our buyer can only move on certain days due to religious beliefs (really?!) and our vendors are REFUSING to move for another 5WEEKS! They have seemingly reneged on this, they even said on our first viewing that they would favour a quick move and soon, so when we mentioned our cash buyer they favoured us.

They will not compromise on this! We are currently in a dire financial state as it has taken longer than expected anyway (we do stand to make a substantial profit from the sale so it's short term but I hate having no money)

Is there anything we can do? Do we just have to dance to their tune? We have tried to appeal to them but they are being utter bastards! The reason is they are doing up their next property, which is one of their parents place. Oh what fucking luxury!

Sorry for the intangible rant, I just wondered if anyone knows where we stand really.

have you exchanged? Sounds like you haven't as you are still discussing completion date.

get the exchange through at all costs. 5 weeks between exchange and completion doesn't leave you homeless, gives you time to pack and may even let you negotiate cheaper removals.

tell them fine but you want exchange on Monday.

I am shamelessly intrigued about your buyers - if there is a 'no' period coming up guessing it is either Muslims with Ramadan or Jews with the 'three weeks' although the latter are allowed to work in this time.

I agree that, while they may not agree to an earlier completion date, it is crucial that you exchange contracts asap. Otherwise they may continue to put back the date and the chain will be shaky.

MisForMumNotMaid · 28/06/2014 20:54

Get exchanged asap, except the earliest date they offer.

Get yourself an overdraft/ use a credit card in the sound knowledge that the sale will complete and you can pay it all off.

In six weeks time it'll be a distant memory.

Thank you, already maxed the overdraft, still on maternity leave so relying on credit card!

Our buyer is a Hindu, so will only move on "auspicious" days... Doesn't matter anyway, but I do hope they tally up! We're just so over it already, might just bugger off on holiday despite having no passport yet for the little one.... Fast track it is!

I don't think there is anything you can do to make it happen faster, but get them to exchange and arrange completion date. We always stated that we needed 4 weeks between exchange and completion (needed to give notice on our rental) and the vendor kept asking to complete earlier but we didn't have cash to pay a mortgage and rental for a month so kept saying no

wormshuffled · 30/06/2014 13:08

I would lie and say you have to move by x day or you will lose your buyer, tell them you'll be moving into rented for 6 months if they don't ship out! so its now or in 6 months time, by which time you might find another house to buy.
