Can you recommend me a nice big (but quite simple) Chandelier ?

It's for a large bedroom with a vaulted ceiling.
All the ones I've seen are very ornate, which is not my style. The simpler ones appear to be too small & would look odd in a big space. I'm stumped, so any ideas would be welcome.

Marking place!

KouignAmann · 28/06/2014 17:46

Have a look at the Laura Ashley catalogue, theirs are nice.

rhubarbcrumbleplease · 28/06/2014 18:01

Thanks Kouign they are but I think they're too small. The only one that would fit is £1500.

What's your budget?

I quite like this one from Graham and Green and have it in the 8-arm size, although that may not be big enough for your needs. You can buy that style, but in different coloured glass and sizes, on Ebay too (try searching for Murano chandelier).

rhubarbcrumbleplease · 28/06/2014 18:21

Wow Voice the 8 arm one is perfect but a bit more than I was hoping to pay. Hadn't thought of Ebay, is it safe to buy electricals?
Thanks so much.

I bought my G&G one on Ebay actually, from somebody who had changed their mind about it - so I think I paid something like £250 rather than £595. Have a look and see if you can find a bargain on there maybe.. :)

LondonGirl83 · 28/06/2014 20:07

whats your budget. Ochre have stunning large ones but they are ££££

MrsLettuce · 28/06/2014 20:11

Yeah, ebay is the place to be. If you're in any doubt rewiring is pretty easy.

rhubarbcrumbleplease · 28/06/2014 20:52

Thanks so much, I've got loads of websites to fantasy shop now. Would ideally prefer under £300 but since it will need to be a statement piece I could pay more at the expense of fancy shower valves

What style /colour is the room

noddyholder · 28/06/2014 22:20

www.bhs.co.uk/en/bhuk/product/home-lighting-furniture-2565866/ceiling-lights-2809354/smoke-nadine-cluster-1075659?bi=1&ps=201. This also available in white looks good with vaulted ceiling

samsam123 · 28/06/2014 22:42

john lewis

rhubarbcrumbleplease · 29/06/2014 07:53

Noddy, it has no style yet. It's an extension so a blank canvas which is rather scarey.
I've got a thing for pale bluey grey (F&B skylight or LG Gauze) so I think a white or creamy light would be safest.
BHS have some lovely lighting.
John Lewis is always my 1st stop but they don't have any affordable ones the right size.
Thank you.

I use bhs or affordable lighting.co.uk as most reliable and best quality for £. Sounds exciting I think when you have good height you can afford to be bold

rhubarbcrumbleplease · 29/06/2014 09:37

Noddy affordable lighting is amazing, so much choice. Thank you.

It's great and they are good re delivery returns etc :)

pigleychez · 29/06/2014 13:34

We recently bought this from BHS for our lounge. It looks lovely up.

Fab price too!- looks much more expensive. Everyone comments on it.

dottyaboutstripes · 29/06/2014 13:43

I'm loving the BHS traditional type of chandeliers. But hoping our vendors might decide to leave theirs Grin

stealthsquiggle · 30/06/2014 11:42

I have the same challenge for our hallway. We have been looking for something to replace the light that the vendors left (reluctantly - they wanted us to buy it off them, I said no, and they ended up leaving it because it would have cost too much to take it down (need scaffolding to reach it))

I like this sort of thing but when you look at the details they are generally too small (needs to be at least 2m long and 80cm wide to make any impact) and don't given enough light for our rather dark double-height hallway.

OP - if you don't need a lot of light then there are some really nice fibre optic ones as well.

rhubarbcrumbleplease · 30/06/2014 11:48

stealth those are the same dimensions we've come up with.
We do need some decent light too. It's easy to get carried away in the light summer days but come january we won't want a dark bedroom.

BHS. We've got a high ceiling in our bedroom and we got one from there. I love it!

dottygamekeeper · 01/07/2014 09:55

I had one made by Belico Lighting - www.belico.co.uk/shop/belton-2-tiered-12-84-arm-wrought-iron-candle-chandelier/ because I couldn't find any simple, unfussy ones for our double height open plan dining area in the centre of our barn.

They have lots of different styles on their website in different sizes and you can choose the finish. I needed a really big one (this is 90 cm diameter by 90 cm high) and I went for the nickel painted finish.
