Ex Council House

Looking at this house at the weekend:

m.zoopla.co.uk/for-sale/details/33641444

it is ex council I am pretty sure. It actually ticks all our boxes and has a handy location. Do you think being an ex council house it may suffer from a stigma and fail to keep up with market prices in the long term and/or be difficult to sell in the future.

possibly it will be our long term family home but also possibly we may move abroad in future and so would also look to rent it out. Any thoughts on this or the house in general?

I lived in N19 for 26 years before living here, Rainy, so maybe closer than you think

I live locally and the vast majority of houses are leasehold - mostly have a 999yr lease. They are a completely different entity than a flat say with a 60 year lease. The ground rent is some nominal sum, ours is £4 a year and there is usually a clause within the lease which says that the freeholder needs to give their authorisation to any extension but it cannot be unreasonably withheld. Most freeholders use management companies for the ground rent and this type of admin, but its usually a question of paying a fee (£100 or so). So no, its not usually a problem to extend a leasehold property. If you speak to any local solicitor / local estate agent, they'll tell you leasehold isn't an issue here.
