We moved here last year and our hall floor was a good quality wood laminate but was badly laid and is lifting. So I was thing about replacing it with something stone-like but don't want to spend exorbitantly. Off the hall is a downstairs bathroom, kitchen, living room, study and porch. I was talking to my friend and she thinks stone-effect laminate is too Kitcheny. Do you think this floor would look okay in a main entrance hallway (10 sq metres)?

That's much nicer than I was expecting. I wonder if your friend would find a tiled floor too kitcheny so laminate or tile it wouldn't matter. If you like it and feel it fits with the house and decor then go for it.

My parents have a tiled/stone effect laminate in their kitchen and in their bathroom. It doesn't feel at all like stone or tiles so its less effective than wood laminate in that respect - its clearly "wooden" with a picture of tiles/stone on it when you see it in real life. It does look nice though.

Their one is a more kitcheny tiled effect and it would look utterly crap in a hallway. The one you've linked to is better but I can't see it looking good in a standard hall unless its the sort of hall which might have had a stone floor IYSWIM.

Its a matter of personal choice though.

Thanks for the responses. Hmm, do I take the lack of more responses on my thread as an indication that nobody likes the floor for a hallway and are just to polite to say so? Hmm Hmm

I think it looks lovely

We were warned off topps tiles as they use a lot of seconds that's don't fit together nicely

Oooo, thanks for letting me know that. Other places have similar floors.

I like it, if it goes with the style of the house then go for it.

burnishedsilver · 28/06/2014 09:46

Its not too kitcheney but personally I don't like the feel of it underfoot. As soon as you stand on it its obvious that its essentially a laminate pretending to be tiles.

PigletJohn · 28/06/2014 09:58

it does look nice, but laminate will generally not stand up to water.

Bathrooms, obviously, but especially kitchens around pets' water bowls, and sometimes outside doors if rain gets in.
