Town like Cambridge?

Hi All!

I'm looking for a place to rent with the same tone of Cambridge (Tons of things happening, a lot of shops, people walking at any time, going for a drink, etc, etc), the same size and within 50 minutes from central London. I been looking a place to rent in Cambs, but there's no way to find a landlord that will accept my pets, so I need to find another place.

I'm living at Ely at the moment, and the place is lovely, but sadly there's a terrible lack of excitement here, too boring for me! At 6 pm the town just die, seems like a ghost place. The pubs are almost empty during the week, and the streets are completely silent by 7pm for god's sake!

I been living in a HUGE city for the last 7 years, and this past year at Ely has been a nightmare of boredom - Keep in mind that I'm working from home, so I don't even have fun at work place. London is not an option (pets, of course), so i'm looking for suggestions!

Any suggestion will be more than welcome. Thanks a lot!

Oxford? Marlow? Henley?

Sorry to say, but I'm not sure why you think Cambridge would be any less pet-friendly than anywhere else?! Surely there's as much chance of finding a pet-friendly landlord there than in Oxford or Henley or Marlow?

Hi Zoe,

I been tryin to other places (like Kingston upon Thames to name one) and found a lot of pet friendly properties available. The problem was that those places seem to be too quiet for me. So yes, there are other places out there more pet friendly. But I'm looking for that one with the same buzz as Cambs and good transport links.

A busy place, with a buzz and good transport links would mean that there's more demand for property so landlords can be picky. If the place is dead they'll take who they can get, pets and all. It might prove difficult to have it both ways without buying your own property. Out of interest, what kind of menagerie have you got?

Canterbury. It's smaller than Cambridge but has large universities so lots of entertainment geared to young adults, the marlowe theatre has just had a huge refurbishment, lots of pubs and cafes, full of students in the winter and tourists in the summer. Beautiful parks and countryside, the beach is 15 minutes away and you can get to London I just under a hour on the high speed train.

Ah ok I get the more competition for housing - more picky landlords. So the more buzzy the area, the fewer the options for renting with pets. Rock/hard place!
