Can I use Annie Sloane paint as an undercoat for painting over a really dark woodstain?

I know nothing about AS paint other than what I've read on here so hope this isn't a stupid question
We have a lot of wood in our hall covered in a really oppressive and dark stain. I'd assumed I'd have to strip this off with Nitromors but wondered if I could just use AS paint first. Would that work or is there an obvious problem I've not thought of?

Give it a go in an unobstrusive area but I suspect that the stain will start to seep through after a few days.

Thanks I'll try it. Just wondered if anyone had used it this way already?

I would use Zinsser BIN primer instead.

Oh thank you! I've never heard of that but it looks like it could be what I'm after
